After two successful auctions for the development of renewable energy projects, in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy will once again support photovoltaic projects by announcing the third largest auction in the region.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy is expected to announce the first competitive process in June this year, with a capacity of up to 300 MW. Unlike the previous projects, now the bidding entities have to provide the area where they can develop the photovoltaic projects, so it is designated as a hybrid project.

But what will the state provide?

Sources from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy inform that the winners of the auction will be guaranteed the purchase of energy for 15 years and that the ministry will provide them with a map of the land where the protected areas that cannot be developed have been determined. photovoltaic projects.

Each bidder has the right to compete for up to 100 MW, in a single project, or distributed in several projects, but not exceeding the defined limit.

Meanwhile, in June, the technical and financial documents of the auction will be announced, where each bidding entity must fulfill the criteria defined to be competitive. The offers with the cheapest price will be declared the winner.

It is also predicted that a ceiling price will be determined which will be announced in June. To give competitors more preparation time, this auction is expected to end in October 2023.

It is worth noting that for this major project, the maximum support is from the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development), from where international consultants will be engaged for assistance and transparency in the competition.

The two previous international auctions for photovoltaic parks in Karavasta and Spitalle were held in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
