Depopulation of the country/ The former socialist MP admits: We have failed

Former socialist MP Ervin Bushati says that depopulation is a failure that Albanian politics must accept.

In the show Now on Euronews Albania, Bushati said that this phenomenon was influenced by the very large drop in the birth rate in the country and qualified emigration with a diploma.

"We have failed at this point, and that is something we have to admit. Since '90, 1.3 of the population has left us, but this disease is the whole of Eastern Europe. We have low births, 1.3 per couple, 1.3 in Greece and 1.25 in Italy; so we are among the countries with the lowest birth rate. In addition to having the lowest level, we also have the mass departure that for some time was for side work, today it is becoming qualified; they go with diplomas and work abroad", said Bushati.
