Caused the fire in Konispol/ Elderly man prosecuted

A person has been criminally prosecuted for causing a fire in Konispol.

It is suspected that the 70-year-old started a fire with the aim of clearing a piece of land and as a result of the spread of the flames, an area of 3.5 hectares was burned.

The flames have also spread to the inhabited territory of the village of Markat.

Konispol/A fire was lit for cleaning and as a result of the spread of the flames, 3.5 ha of pasture and a stable with small livestock were burned. The 70-year-old man is being prosecuted at large due to his age.

As a result of investigative actions to document cases of arson and bring the perpetrators to legal responsibility, the Crime Investigation specialists of the Saranda Police Commissariat referred the procedural materials to the Prosecutor's Office, for the citizen:

FM, 70 years old, resident of the village of Markat, Konispol.

Preliminary investigations suspect that this citizen, on 26.07.2025, at around 09:00, started a fire with the aim of clearing a piece of pasture land on the mountain of the village of Markat and, as a result of the spread of the flames by the strong wind, an area of 3.5 hectares of grass and bushes was burned. The fire also spread to the inhabited territory of the village, where it caused the burning of a stable with small livestock (10 sheep) and a poultry coop.

The procedural materials were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Saranda, for further action.

The Vlora Local Police Directorate appeals to all citizens not to light fires under any circumstances, as they will face the law./ CNA
