The President of the National Union for the Integration of Former Political Prisoners and Persecuted of Albania, Besim Ndregjoni, addressed a call to Western diplomats in Tirana because in Albania the symbols of the dictatorship were being displayed in public spaces supported by the political power and also displayed and from state institutions.
In his letter addressed to the American Embassy, ??the Embassy of the European Delegation, the OSCE Presence in Tirana, the German Embassy, ??the Embassy of the United Kingdom, Ndregjoni writes that Albanian politics has become party to these symbols and continues its silence for 33 years.
He raises the question of how these institutions can use the taxes of Albanians by bringing back the murderous symbols of communism.
This reaction comes after the head of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, recently appeared in a public event with a red scarf tied around his neck.
Besim Ndregjon's letter to Western diplomats
Excellent Ambassador!
Concerned by the current political situation in our country, we survivors of the dictatorship who represent 40% of the population who were persecuted and massacred by the Stalinist dictatorship of Enver Hoxha are addressing you, representatives of democratic countries, as defenders of freedom and the rights and freedoms of to man and as ideal friends of the politically persecuted who, for the cause of freedom during the communist regime, were inspired by the democracy and freedom that your nations had, we make our call to you and let you know: Within this 10 years, with the coming to power of the socialists, the successors of the dictatorial communist party that ruled for half a century and massacred the Albanians, the symbols of the dictatorship have begun to appear in public spaces supported by the political power and displayed by state institutions.
Mr. Ambassador!
We bring to your attention a statement by John Kennedy, former President of the United States: "Communism has never come to power in a country that has not been affected by war, or corruption, or both." Therefore, our concern is that communism came to Albania from the second world war, 1944, and now it is returning from the corruption of this power with its symbols. We bring to your attention that Albania has a tragic record of the crimes of communism. There are over 6,000 Albanians who were shot by communism and their remains were destroyed, and today they do not have a grave for their family members to commemorate, the political power does not even allow the "Wall of Remembrance" to be erected to commemorate their sublime work and sacrifice. There are over 36,000 political prisoners who went through the ordeal of persecution for half a century and for 33 years of pluralism they only know the silence and contempt of an anti-national political class, keeping silent about the crime and honoring their executioners.
There are over 100,000 families who faced political exiles and expulsions and were given the Soviet nickname "Kulak". For 10 years now, the corrupt political power has been commemorating the symbolic dates of the dictatorship, such as November 29, 1944, when the communist dictatorship was established in Albania, celebrating it as the day of liberation, where this date separated Albania from the West for 50 years. The students of the schools are taken under the dictates of the teachers and with the blessing of the Ministry of Education they honor with their fists in commemorations of the festive dates of the dictatorship, and Albanian politics as the hereditary position of the dictatorship, and the opposition pass these murderous actions towards the new generation in silence.
On national television and in the daily press, the figures of the criminals of the dictatorship appear, with the participation of the current rulers poisoning the new generation. Dictatorship movies are shown every night on Albanian television. On January 16, 2024, the Opera and Ballet Theater, an institution of the Ministry of Culture, gives a performance with a dance that was sung to the dictator during his barbaric rule. In a program of a national television, songs about the dictator's party are openly displayed and superlatives are spoken about the time of the dictatorship, insulting over half a million Albanians who survived the massacres of communism. Albanian politics has become party to these symbols and continues its silence for 33 years. How can these institutions use our taxes by bringing back the murderous symbols of communism.
Official Tirana neither remembers the many victims of communism nor has it officially condemned the crimes of the Enveristo-Stalinist communism during the past three decades. Both the current socialist position in government and the current democratic opposition, in the past, share the blame for this. The majority of Albanians are now convinced that these three decades, of the "post-communist" transition, were nothing but a continuation of the infamous regime, perhaps a little milder than the former Enverist regime, but basically, anti-democratic, with values ??and same ideology. Unfortunately, the perpetuation of the communist evil (the evil of communism), as President Ronald Reagan once called it, has reached such serious proportions that today it is necessary to warn the four religious communities in Albania against such phenomena. Moreover, such a thing is happening in Albania in front of the eyes of Western diplomats in Tirana and in the face of their silence towards these disturbing phenomena for a NATO member country.
The National Union for the Integration of Political Prisoners and the Persecuted of Albania and the four religious communities have asked the state institutions to punish the crimes of communism by law, as Europe did after the cold war and after the fall of the Berlin wall, but politics only remains silent and protects corruption to get rich.
We, the survivors of the dictatorship years ago, have often warned the Western diplomatic missions in Albania that the evil of the communist beast is being perpetuated in Albania and that this is now an official policy, albeit silent, but deliberate and that the diplomats of the Western countries in Tirana they should speak openly against such phenomena. Albania is moving towards a democratic dictatorship---the resistance of the survivors of the dictatorship against this dictatorship must have the understanding of the international community!
We must remind the Western diplomats in Tirana, old and new friends of Albania and Albanians; that their recent silence towards the perpetuation of what, not only Four religious communities see as a perpetuation of communist evil in the country, but also other local and international observers also think that it is not in the interest of Albanian democracy, nor in the interest of the relations of the Albanian Nation with its friends in the western democratic world, where we all think and believe that they belong eternally, as one of the oldest peoples of Europe. How and why can the silence of the diplomats of the countries of Western Europe and the United States in Tirana be justified against the "occasional neo-communism and various forms of exaltation of the former communist dictatorship", according to the resolution of the four religious communities and National Union for the Integration of Prisoners and Persecuted] Politics in Albania.
Dear diplomats of Western democracies Accredited in Tirana! You can continue to remain silent about these phenomena, but in the company of Dr. Martin Luther King – the champion of human rights and freedoms in America last century when we faced the Enverista dictatorship that, “In the end, we will not remember the words of our enemies against us, but we will remember the silence of our friends ” in the face of injustices towards us. Today's generation of Albanians has begun to question the friendship of the Westerners and we, the survivors of the dictatorship, are surprised by your silence towards the exaltation of a barbaric communist regime in Albania, even from the official, political and justice circles of a NATO member country. -S.
Your silence, dear friends, to the flagrant violation of internationally sanctioned rights, including the capture of institutions, we cannot believe that it is in the interest of your Western countries and even less in the interest of Albanians eager for freedom and democracy, no and no .
This should be the cause of the internationals in their relations with the official Albanian institutions and with all other entities of the Albanian society and state, including the opposition and civil society as they are lacking and dysfunctional.
Otherwise, in the face of the current political chaos in Albania, American and Western European taxpayers, rightly, should ask the question: What is the success of democracy in Albania that has been promised with the pouring of staggering funds these 33 years of transition by American taxpayers and Western European? This, to keep in power this current 33-year-old, authoritarian, neo-communist political class - position and opposition - closely connected, not only ideologically, but also biologically to the roots of the former communist regime of Enver Hoxha; something unseen today in any other ex-communist country, a member of the Western military alliance, NATO, such as Albania./ CNA
