The Democratic Party has reacted strongly to the arrest of farmers in Levan i Fier.

In a statement to the media, MP Luan Baçi said that Minister Taulant Balla lets the mobsters go free and arrests the livestock farmers.

Baçi has called this a national shame.

"Five farmers who protested today in Levan te Fieri against the monopoly of milk factories and the reduction of the price of their products have been arrested.

Alket Çobo, Ervin Resuli and other protesters were violently escorted from their homes 3 hours after the end of the protest.

This is the next act that the government of Edi Rama does against the Albanians who go out on the streets to protect the rights, dignity and daily bread of children.

Minister Balla, who lets mobsters go free and arrests cattle ranchers, committed a national shame today. This is an attempt to prevent the intensification of a national strike by Albanian livestock farmers.

We call on Balla and his colleagues in the police not to commit illegal acts for which they will answer tomorrow.

We assure the livestock farmers from Fieri, Vlora and all over Albania of the unsparing support of the Democratic Party.

The livestock farmers' protest is not a demonstration of what the government does, but a cry of need. It was driven by the drastic reduction in milk prices from processing factories, from 180 ALL per liter years ago, to only 120 ALL per liter today. This has brought about a survival crisis for livestock farmers, forcing some of them to close their businesses or slaughter their herds.

Cattle breeders have warned of intensification of protests, including blocking roads and demonstrative refusal to deliver milk.

We will support them.

The battle of every Albanian for a better life and dignity is also the battle of the Democratic Party.
