Tirana-Durres secondary road towards transformation, Tirana Municipality opens

The Municipality of Tirana has opened the tender procedure for the reconstruction of the Tirana-Durres secondary axis up to the Kashari overpass, an investment worth around 595 million lekë that aims to improve infrastructure and facilitate traffic in one of the most important entrance segments of the capital.

According to Scan, the project includes the complete rehabilitation of the road that starts near Hygea Hospital and extends to the Rinas overpass area, near Megatek. This axis is used every day by thousands of vehicles and serves as the main connection for industrial areas, businesses and residential communities in the west of Tirana.

According to the tender documentation, the road has a total length of approximately 6,839 linear meters and consists of a two-lane carriageway, each 3.25 meters wide.

The intervention will include the reconstruction of the roadway, the construction of new sidewalks, the arrangement of white water sewers, the installation of public lighting, greenery, and the placement of modern road signage.

The need for investment comes as a result of the degradation of the existing segment, where asphalt damage, potholes, surface cracks and substandard sidewalks have been identified. The increase in the number of residents and the development of residential and industrial areas have significantly increased traffic, making it necessary to improve this axis.

An important part of the project is also related to improving the drainage system, through the construction of new manholes and the modernization of the existing network, with the aim of avoiding flooding problems during rainfall.

With this investment, the Municipality of Tirana aims to increase road safety, improve access for residents and businesses in the area, and create better conditions for traffic on one of the busiest axes connecting the capital with the Tirana-Durres corridor./ CNA
