SPAK/Dumani annual report: Seizures reached 65.5 million euros, a 21% increase

The Head of the Special Prosecution Office, Altin Dumani, is reporting today before the Laws Committee regarding the activity of SPAK in 2024.

In his speech, Dumani focused on a number of aspects, linking them to EU recommendations.

Dumani said that during 2024, the number of prosecutors increased from 17 to 20, the number of cases under investigation increased by 8% and the number of persons investigated by 21%.

The head of SPAK added that as a result of parallel financial investigations, seizures amounted to 65.5 million euros, a 60% increase compared to a year earlier, which includes money in bank accounts, transactions and money in cryptocurrency.

"SPAK has prepared the report submitted for 2024, which was sent to the Parliament in March 2025. Now, the annual report with detailed data has been submitted according to the legal deadlines and in this report I will focus on several key points. During 2024, SPAK has paid attention to following the recommendations of the EU, the resolution of the Parliament of Albania and the recommendations of the Council of Ministers in the fight against corruption.

Regarding the implementation of the recommendations, the first concerns the punishments for corruption. During 2024, the number of prosecutors increased from 17 to 20, international expertise and training were added. This was reflected in an 8% increase in cases under investigation and a 21% increase in the number of persons investigated. There was a 15% decrease in the number of new cases registered.

Regarding the other recommendation of parallel financial investigations, SPAK standardized several procedures and investigations and conducted them in parallel with the criminal investigation. As a result, seizures reached 65.5 million euros, an increase of 60% compared to the previous year, which includes money in bank accounts, transactions and money in cryptocurrencies.

"During 2024, cooperation with Europol, Eurojust, Interpol and parallel European and American agencies was strengthened. 10 new investigative teams were created. It proved key in investigations into drug trafficking and money laundering," Dumani said. /CNA
