The government approves changes to the Criminal Procedure Code

The government has approved changes to the Code of Criminal Procedure and passed them for approval in the Assembly.

According to the amendments, the request for summary judgment, which reduces 1/3 of the sentence, will not be allowed for criminal offenses where the victims of the offense are minors.

Also, the request for summary judgment, which reduces 1/3 of the sentence, will not be allowed for criminal offenses when it comes to domestic violence.

The changes provide that domestic abusers will not be able to receive a summary judgment, not reducing their sentence.

DRAFT LAW FOR AN ADDENDUM TO LAW NO.7905, DATED 21.3.1995, "CRIMINAL PROCEDURE CODE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA", AS AMENDED

In support of articles 81, points 1 and 2, letter "d", and 83, point 1, of the Constitution, with the proposal of the Council of Ministers, the Assembly of the Republic of Albania

DECIDE:

Article 1

In the second paragraph, of Article 403, of Law No. 7905, dated 21.3.1995, "Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Albania", as amended, after the words "... with life imprisonment..." are added "..., the crimes committed towards minor victims as well as for the criminal offense provided for by Article 130/ai of the Criminal Code...".

Article 2

This law enters into force 15 days after publication in the "Official Gazette"./ CNA.al
