Protest at Spaç mine/DP MP meets with company, no agreement

Not only have they not reached any agreement, but 16 miners from the Spaç mine have been fired. For 10 days, about 70 miners have been boycotting work and a solution has not yet been found between the parties, as the company has refused to sit down for talks, claiming that the union created by the employees does not meet legal criteria. The miners are warning of a hunger strike if their demands are not taken into consideration.

"We had a legal, warned protest and they fired me. They fired 16 people, mainly the union council. We are leaving without any warning. We will use legal instances as well as other means of strike action."

"What concerns us with the labor code, we will see to it to the end. They do not accept the union because they want a union that interests them. We want a union that will protect our rights. We will be here the whole time. We are on strike and at this time he has no right to either lay off or hire workers."

"We have received a signal that we will have a meeting at the ministry on Tuesday. If no solution is reached, then we will start a hunger strike."

The Democratic Party MP in the Lezha District, Gjin Gjoni, held a meeting with representatives of the Turkish company, but without reaching an agreement between the parties.

"The Turkish company is a concessionaire, not the owner of the mine. The owner is the Albanian state and they must comply with all applicable legislation. I support them every day, I will come and support the protest every day. It is good that the Albanian authorities intervene in this conflict, which has worsened. The company has losses, but these miners are also the ones who lose the most because they have families to support."

For 10 days, the miners have not stopped their protest as they demand intervention from the Albanian government.

The Turkish company has not only refused to sit in on talks, but has also announced the dismissal of 16 miners who are part of the union council, claiming that they have boycotted work without warning in violation of the law!/ CNA
