"For a cleaner Albania!"/ German-Swiss project of around 70 million

Last Friday, the "Program for Sustainable and Climate-Friendly Management in the Waste Sector in Albania" was launched at the Ministry of Environment, a German-Swiss co-financed project implemented by the KfW Development Bank.

As highlighted in a statement from the German Embassy in Tirana, this is a project with a total volume of 66.65 million euros, this is the largest investment program in the waste management sector in Albania and a fundamental response to one of the country's most urgent environmental and cleanliness challenges.

The program will radically modernize waste management in several cities in the country, such as Berat, Dibër, Durrës, Korçë and Vlorë, aligning it with EU standards and the principles of the circular economy.

In concrete terms, this project is related to new landfills, modern waste separation and composting plants, collection/transfer stations and modernized collection technology, closure and renovation of illegal landfills, stronger institutions and higher public awareness about recycling.

Germany has long supported sustainable urban development in Albania and the Basque Country with partners, including SECO, the EU, AFD and GIZ, aim to transform environmental challenges into opportunities, by strengthening institutions, promoting good governance and building sustainable cities./CNA
