The tragic event in Durrës/Zhupa: We have failed to make laws that serve

DP MP Ina Zhupa spoke in Parliament regarding the tragic accident that occurred the day before in Durrës. Zhupa stated that all MPs have failed to make laws that serve the citizens in Parliament.

She further added that the majority cannot talk about the Criminal Code every time a death occurs. She also expressed criticism of the State Police, which she said has failed to take care of the needs of the community.

"This Assembly cannot be satisfied with just 1 minute of silence for a tragic and foreshadowed event. The Assembly cannot do politics with death, but make some policies that serve the citizens. We have all failed, because we are unable to establish this Assembly as an Assembly that makes laws that serve the citizens. We cannot remember and talk about the Traffic Code or the Criminal Code only when there is a death. When have you seen the State Police taking care of the needs of the community? This is the first failure of a government that has seen it as a means of force for its own electoral goals.

Our cities have turned into dormitories, where you can only sleep at home and no community life can be built. Cities without squares, without playgrounds, without gardens. Where in the middle of the street you can find everything, but nothing related to community, to the construction of a common space. The concern has been to concrete every space. It has never been about the children, the parents, the grandparents: where they will live, how they will fill their days.

The Durrës community all express the same thing: that they have warned the police, but no one has reacted. If we have a group, the group of children's friends, we cannot unite with each other just to ask for 1 minute of silence; we must unite to ask for changes in the Traffic and Criminal Codes, but above all to change how institutions are used in the service of some clients, of a strong one. This is how you were created, this is how you hold power. When such events happen, you spare us your condolences, because if you want to do something, you have the votes, you have the opportunity" , said Zhupa. /CNA
