From EU involvement to attacks in Kosovo/ Details of the Begaj-Macron meeting
Begaj and Macron in the Presidency

The President of the Republic Bajram Begaj received today the counterpart of France, Emmanuel Macron, as well as the delegation accompanying him.

For the president, this visit is a historic event in the relations between our two countries, as it is the first official visit of a French President to Albania.

During the face-to-face meeting, President Begaj underlined that Macron's visit demonstrates the common interest in strengthening bilateral relations, as well as in the direction of peace, security, and development of the Western Balkans region.

Albania's European integration and developments in the region were part of the talks with President Macron. President Begaj expressed his gratitude for the support that France and President Macron have given and continue to give to the process of expansion and European integration of Albania and other countries of the Western Balkans region through the Berlin Process.

He also praised the initiative undertaken a year ago by President Macron, for the launch of the European Political Community, as an initiative that gives more opportunities to Albania and other candidate countries in the European Union, to have more access to EU projects- of, especially in the field of university and student exchanges.

President Begaj also thanked President Macron for his contribution to supporting the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, especially through the Franco-German plan, underlining the need to further support this dialogue, but also the need to punish and discourage acts of violence and provocations in the municipalities of North Kosovo.

"Kosovo is a sovereign and independent country, and terrorist acts like that of Banjska in Zveçan (September 24, 2023) are unacceptable and reprehensible for its security, but also for the region and the entire European continent."

President Begaj estimated that five years after the signing of the Declaration of Strategic Partnership between the two countries, relations between Albania and France have entered a new and very dynamic phase.

President Begaj expressed his satisfaction that beyond the consolidated cultural relations between the two countries, the great interest of French companies, especially in the field of renewable energy, but not only, is taking relations to another, even higher level.

"I am confident that the projects of the photovoltaic parks in Karavasta and Spitalle will be followed by other large projects from French investors," President Begaj said in a message distributed to the media./ CNA
