As of March 3, all recruitment in the administration is prohibited, declared the Minister of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption, Adea Pinderi.

"The Council of Ministers had approved the decision to take measures and monitor the activity or use of human resources of the state administration during the elections.

As of March 3, all recruitment in the administration is prohibited, to hire new employees, no new employment procedures will be carried out in ministries and joint-stock companies where the state is the owner.

"There will only be one exception when it comes to emergency needs in areas such as key infrastructure or health and medicine," the minister said.

This decision comes within the framework of preparations for the upcoming local/parliamentary elections, strengthening controls over public administration and aiming to increase citizens' trust in the electoral process.

Albania will hold parliamentary elections on May 11 of this year.

The suspension of recruitment in the public administration during election periods is a common measure aimed at avoiding political influence in state employment. This practice is in line with international standards for free and fair elections, ensuring that public resources are not used for electoral purposes.

In Albania, similar measures have been implemented in past elections, as part of efforts to increase transparency and a clear separation between public administration and political campaigns. Interference in employment during election periods can be perceived as political favoritism, so the ban on recruitment serves to guarantee a fairer and more independent process./ Monitor Magazine
