The Assembly of the Academy of Sciences approved the new statute of the Academy yesterday. The Assembly has given the green light to the changes proposed by the Presidency, despite the objections. Specifically, there were objections from Aurela Anastasi, Beqir Meta and Artan Fuga.

The decision charges the presidency to follow the drafting of the draft regulations of the institutes/permanent centers and to reflect in the head-addition to the Statute the opinions and remarks of their leaders and scientific councils as well as of the members of the Assembly, until October 2024, to presented to her for final approval.

According to the proposed statute, "The elections of the heads of institutes and research-scientific centers according to this statute take place at the end of 2024. The temporary scientific councils until the new elections and the directors are appointed by the Presidency of AShSh." The elected members of the current scientific councils continue to be members of the respective scientific councils.

The head of the institute / center must have at least the Research Master category. He is elected/appointed for a 4-year term, with the right to re-election or re-appointment only once. The head of the institute is its legal representative and heads the scientific council," the new statute says.

Meanwhile, the election of the directors of the institutes is done by direct and secret voting by the electoral body composed of research-scientific employees and members of the relevant permanent commission. 5 more detailed procedures are defined by a separate sub-article. The selected candidate is appointed by the Presidency of ASHSH. For the centers, as a rule, the leader is chosen by the Presidency of ASH, with the proposal of the scientific board of the center. For the case when the centers that have a joint scientific council with another institute/center, the selection is made as for the heads of the institutes./ CNA
