Illegal marriage in Tirana Municipality/ GJKKO's appeal accepts the appeal

The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, after the review in the consultation room, rejected the decision of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime no. 390 decision, dated 23.10.2023, which has decided: "Rejection of the appeal against two decisions of the respective Prosecutor's Offices for the declaration of incompetence".

The Special Court of Appeal, in the session held on 19.09.2024, has decided to transfer the case to be considered in a court session with the presence of the parties on 03.10.2024, Thursday, at 12:00.

Mejlis and other associations sued the mayor of Tirana Erjon Veliaj in SPAK for abuse of office for the illegal homosexual marriage ceremony in the municipality of Tirana.

SPAK did not accept the lawsuit. Majlis and other associations appealed to the Special Court for Organized Crime and Corruption.

After the CJKKO of the first instance decided not to accept the appeal, Mejlis appealed to the GJKKO Appellate, which accepted the appeal and decided to review the SPAK's decision not to start the investigation./ CNA
