Requested the termination of the measure/ GJKKO leaves Lefter Koka in prison

The Special Court has rejected the request of former Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka, for release from prison.

A few days ago, Koka submitted a request for release from prison and termination of the "Arrest in Prison" measure.

Koka argues that he has served his sentence for the Tirana incinerator in pre-trial detention after spending three years in prison. Koka was sentenced to 3 years in prison for the Tirana incinerator on April 16, 2025.

Lefter Koka was granted conditional release for the Elbasan incinerator by the Durrës Court, but was not released because he had other criminal offenses.

On October 21, 2025, the Supreme Court returned the Fier incinerator case, where the main defendants are former Minister of Environment Lefter Koka and former MP Alqi Bllako, for retrial. After reviewing the case in the Advisory Chamber, the decision given by the Appeals Court on December 19, 2024 was overturned.

The former minister was arrested in December 2021 for the Elbasan incinerator case on charges of abuse of office, money laundering and corruption./CNA
