The government's number two and also the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, has announced that the works on the expansion of the Tirana-Durres highway are progressing well and the two phases of the project will be completed within this year.

"We are at one of the construction sites that is progressing better, which is the Tirana-Durres highway construction site," declared Balluku, emphasizing that the project is advancing according to plan. "The first phase has a good progress of 65 percent, while the second phase has already reached 85 percent of the works. We hope to have completed the first and second phases by the end of the year," she said.

Balluku emphasized that work continues near the Kasharti turnoff, where the last 200 meters remain.

Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku said that the Tirana-Durres highway is being transformed into a modern "A" category axis, with European parameters.

"In the first six kilometers, starting from Casa Italia to the Kashari Overpass, the highway turns into an A-type highway, with a 32.5-meter-wide crown, with four lanes on both sides, three for cars and one for emergencies," the minister declared.

Balluku said that after the first two phases are completed, traffic in this segment is expected to be significantly eased, improving movement between Tirana and Durrës.

"The first and second phases will be opened by the end of the year and traffic will be significantly eased," said Minister Balluku./ CNA
