Former prosecutor: Increase in crime in Albania due to institutional

Former prosecutor Eugen Beçi analyzed today the situation of the increase in crime in the last decade in the country, based on official statistics.

Invited to "Syri TV", Beçi emphasized that the transition from cannabis use as a crime "under control" by institutions, to the creation of genuine organized crime structures, occurs due to the lack of institutional stability.

"From 2016 to 2025, we have said it several times and today INSTAT proves it statistically that it is a 'qualitative surge'. The idea of ??cannabis that was in 2016, had to do with a visible phenomenon, lack of control of the territory and of course it created a phenomenon focused only on the cultivation of narcotics. The fact that in 2026, we have such a surge shows that we have some situations that come due to cannabis, from the destabilization of institutions. When they fail to respond to a situation, of course crime takes ground. From cannabis, which was a 'visible' crime to be controlled, today we come to genuine structures of organized crime that control Europe and Latin America.
