The Association "Professional Journalists of Albania" (APJ Albania) and the Institute of Online and Social Media (IMOS Albania) condemn the attacks launched a few days ago in some online media, against the journalist Ola Xama, which are clearly intended to intimidate her and denigrate her her figure.

APJ Albania and IMOS Albania consider that this is a deliberate denigrating and threatening campaign, due to the duty, as a result of the investigative writings of the journalist Ola Xama, through which she has exposed the involvement of high officials in serious corruption affairs.

The attacks against the journalist started immediately after an article published in the Balkan Investigative Journalism Network (BIRN) through Reporter.al about the Tirana incinerator file, an affair that is being investigated by the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Organized Crime and Corruption (SPAK). and that has led to the imprisonment of several officials under the charge of corruption.

The campaign of attacks has intensified in recent days with the publication of blackmailing and threatening materials against her and her close family members, with the aim of intimidating the journalist to stop her investigations.

APJ Albania and IMOS Albania express solidarity with colleague Ola Xama by joining other media organizations that have reacted, and call on journalists, media and other media or human rights organizations to join us in seeking , the immediate cessation of such attacks, which not only harm journalism and freedom of expression, but also put the journalist's safety at risk.

APJ Albania and IMOS Albania will also inform international partner organizations and all international institutions and offices, which are energetically engaged in the protection of journalists and freedom of press and expression, about this case.
