Manastirliu: We will increase salaries and shorten the time for hiring teachers
Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu

On Teacher's Day, another new school opens its doors to students, the 9-year-old "26 November" school in the heart of Tirana.

At the inauguration ceremony of the new school, financed by the EU, the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, emphasized the importance of investments in educational infrastructure and in the professional development of teachers.

She said that the "26 November" school is a clear proof of the government's commitment to raise the quality of education in Albania, also mentioning the opening of 40 new construction sites.

"This year we will open 40 new school sites in the country's municipalities, enabling us not only to have stronger, better, modern schools, but on the other hand to have structures where learning takes place at a different standard and quality, thanks to the investments we are making", said Manastirliu.

The minister added that the professional development of teachers and salary increases are key priorities to promote quality education and support teachers in their important mission.

"If the infrastructure has its importance, definitely the professional development of teachers has maximum importance. We are on the verge of opening a National Program for the Training and Professional Development of Teachers where we are moving in several dimensions.

The first, in the training and education of teachers, starting from primary school teachers, to language, mathematics and science teachers.

4,000 teachers will be trained within this year, and next year, 15,000 teachers will undergo the ongoing education process, but also specific training for the most effective teaching methods. We will have a new career system for teachers, starting with another scaling of teachers' qualifications and giving them the opportunity to be financially supported as part of their qualifications," stated the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu. .

Regarding financial support, the Minister focused on the historical increase in salaries for teachers, considering it a necessity to increase the quality of teaching but also to increase the interest of young people to choose teaching.

"Increasing salaries is a necessity to support teachers, to increase the quality of teaching, but also to take another step towards increasing the interest of young people to choose teaching. The "Teachers for Albania" portal has managed to guarantee maximum transparency and meritocracy in the hiring of teachers, but I am convinced that each of you who came through the portal has suggestions, which are directly related to the licensing and entry processes of the portal. For this reason, we are trying to shorten the waiting time for teachers, to get into work, and through the electronic processes of applying for licensing and hiring teachers, we are reducing the minimum 6 month wait for teachers to get into the education system and to work in our education system," said the Minister of Education and Sports from the new school "26 November" in Tirana, which now has an advanced infrastructure that includes 20 classrooms, 3 new IT laboratories, Chemistry , Physics, a gym and two sports fields.

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, representatives of the European Union, teachers, students and other guests were also present at the inauguration ceremony of the "November 26" school.

For the teachers of this school, the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, had prepared a special dedication, congratulating all the teachers, with flowers as a sign of gratitude for their valuable contribution to the education of children on March 7./ CNA
