Approval of the extraordinary resolution for Beleri/ Greek MP, message to

MP and Secretary of International Affairs of the New Democracy, Tasos Hatzivasiliou, has stated that respect for the rule of law is a minimum requirement.

Greece and New Democracy are strong supporters of Albania's EU membership, but a message must be sent that respect for the rule of law is a minimum requirement.

He stated that they do not interfere in the Albanian legislation, but should respect the results of the vote and Beler's right to be sworn in as mayor.

The MP closed his speech by saying that they support Albania's European future, but on the other hand, Albania must respect the rights of national minorities.

"Respecting the rule of law is a minimum requirement. Greece and ND are strong supporters of Albania's EU membership, but we must send a message that respect for the rule of law is a minimum requirement. It is not a bilateral issue, but a European issue, which we must deal with. We do not interfere in the Albanian legislation, but they must respect the result of the vote which says that the defeated former candidate for mayor cannot take the post.
