Fredi Beleri proud: Greeks and Albanians voted for me, Rama called me scum

The winner of the elections in the Municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri, in an interview from prison for the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, spoke about the discourse used by Rama during the electoral campaign in the local elections of May 14.

Beleri says that he has publicly called Rama scum, garbage and other similar things, but he says that he feels proud because "in the elections I proved that I managed to convince the citizens of Himara, Greeks and Albanians, to vote for me".

Excerpt from the interview:

- On the eve of the local elections, Rama publicly described you as his "personal enemy". You were also supported by Sali Berisha and his party. Are you acting as an opposition body trying to overthrow the Albanian prime minister?

"Rama said many more. He publicly called me scum, trash and the like. However, I behaved as a politician with a political discourse that dealt exclusively with local issues. I emphasized that in the local elections we do not elect a prime minister or deputy. We elect a mayor who will only care about what happens within the boundaries of his municipality. At no point did I become the opposition with the prime minister even though I had the support of the united opposition. I feel only pride because in the elections I proved that I managed to convince the citizens of Himara, Greeks and Albanians, to vote for me. I am only interested in the good of my country, of Himara."/ CNA
