International Architecture Festival “Bread & Heart”/ Full agenda

The International Architecture Festival "Bread & Heart Festival" will take place in Tirana from June 5 to 8.

This festival, developed by the Territorial Development Agency, under the auspices of Prime Minister Edi Rama, is a historic event for Albania.

On June 5, at 8:00 PM, a welcoming ceremony by Prime Minister Edi Rama will take place at the Prime Minister's Office.

On June 6, starting from 8:00 AM to 11:55 PM, the festival will be open day, where entry will be possible for the public, who must be equipped with tickets.

The agenda of the open day will be as follows:

The festival's opening ceremony.

An exhibition of Garden Models will be held. There will also be a session: “Changing a Culture: Towards an Established Practice”.

 

The speech of the urban planner and curator, Michiel van lersel

Iersel's speech will be followed by a welcoming speech by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

 

The presentation will be led by two architects, Freek Persyn & Reinier de Graaf.

Afterwards, four architects Carme Pigem, Steven Holl, Kengo Kuma and Chris Precht will give a short presentation on the topic : What comes next for Albania and Tirana in terms of architecture and spatial development, and how to work towards a more design-based practice in Albania?

Short interviews in various public places.

Afterwards, an interview with curator Anneke Abhelakh will take place.

The first session of the festival's open day will close with a cello performance.

At 11 am, the second session will begin with the topic: "First Impressions: Working in/with Albania"

The session will be opened by the presenter's speech.

The presentation will be given by two well-known architects, Winy Maas & Stefano Boeri.

A presentation that will be followed by another presentation, that of the 4 architects Johan Anrys, Elora Hardy, Christian Kerez and Beat Huesler.

During this presentation, reflections from foreign and local architects will be heard on design in Albania, what challenged and surprised them, and how this reshaped their way of thinking.

Short interviews will be held in various public places.

The panel consisting of architects Benedetta Tagliabue, Xaveer de Geyter, Sonila Abdalli, Sam Chermayeff and Jose Selgas will develop a discussion of different perspectives, expanding the stories shared on stage into a broader and well-thought-out exchange.

After the discussion concludes, there will be a live dance performance.

The activities will have a break starting from 12:40 to 14:30.

The third session on the topic “ Second Guesses: Lessons Learned ” will start at 14:40.

Architects Alejandro Aravena and Anupama Kundoo will present the key points of the presentation.

Afterwards, the panel consisting of Amanda Levete, Emre Arolat, Marco Casamoti, and Andrea Caputo will share personal stories of failures, near-failures, and misunderstood goals, shared with honesty, "humor, and reflection."

An interview will be held with Albanian architect Irida Shupo.

After the interview with Shupo is over, there will be short interviews in various public places.

The panel of architects Camilo Rebelo, Wilfries Kuehn, Denada Veizaj, Olga Bolshanina and Kersten Geers will discuss different perspectives, expanding the stories shared on stage into a broader and well-thought-out exchange.

After the discussion concludes, there will be a live performance.

At 16:25 the fourth session will begin on the topic " Future Desires: Looking Ahead "

The session will begin with an interview with architect Elena Reygadas.

Then Minsuk Cho and Mikkel Frost will present the key points of the discussions.

Short 5-minute interviews will be conducted in various public places.

 

The panel consisting of architects Pier Paolo Tamburelli, Robert Edward Grant, Falma Fshazi, Winka Dubbledam and Amin Taha will develop a discussion with different perspectives, expanding the stories shared on stage into a broader and well-thought-out exchange.

After the panel discussions, there will be a live piano performance, which will close the fourth session.

The fifth and final session for the open day of the "Bread and Heart" festival will start at 5:35 PM.

Architect Michiel van Iersel will deliver his closing speech.

Then, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama will deliver the closing speech.

After Prime Minister Rama finishes his speech, a cocktail party will be held.

The presentation of “Elements” by Davide Rapp will take place. The presentation features a 32-minute collage that reimagines architecture through over 500 film clips, revealing how everyday building elements shape our experience of space.

Then until 5 minutes before midnight, there will be music from a DJ at the outdoor exhibition./ CNA
