Abuses with the prices for the end of the year holidays/ The Competition

The Competition Authority has taken measures to monitor the prices of products for the end of the year holidays in order to identify, prevent and penalize those commercial enterprises that abuse the prices in violation of law no. 9121/2003 "On the Protection of Competition".

The Competition Authority assures citizens that it will identify and punish any possible phenomenon of artificial price increase that may be caused by unfair competition practices.

"The prices of basket products for the period December 1, 2024 - January 15, 2025 are under special monitoring.

The Competition Authority announces that, within the framework of the commitment to protect competition and the interests of consumers, it is taking all the necessary steps by putting under immediate monitoring on the ground the prices of food basket products during the holiday period at the end of the year, with the aim the identification, prevention and penalization of those commercial enterprises that abuse prices in violation of law no. 9121/2003 "On the Protection of Competition".

The Competition Authority assures citizens that it will identify and punish any possible phenomenon of artificial price increase that may be caused by unfair competition practices.

Law no. 9121/2003 "On the protection of competition" prohibits all agreements that have as their object or as a consequence the obstruction, limitation or distortion of competition in the market, especially agreements that determine, directly or indirectly, purchase or sale prices, or any other terms of trade.

Bringing to the attention of networks of commercial enterprises that the violation of Law 9121/2003 "On the protection of competition" constitutes an administrative offense and is sanctioned with a fine, in the amount of up to 10 percent of the turnover of the previous financial year of the enterprises included in the agreement of illegal", says the announcement./ CNA
