Yesterday, an American citizen, Joshua Roberts, appeared in the Durrës detention center where Mayor Erion Veliaj has been held since February 13, and whom the media close to the mayor presented as Donald Trump's lawyer.


Joshua Roberts stated that he has the role of an observer in the Erion Veliaj trial and appeared in the Appeal today. Shortly after the hearing began, the trial panel composed of Judge Engert Pëllumbi did not allow Roberts to participate because he did not meet the legal criteria.

 


In the history of court hearings in Albania, there is another precedent where accused persons or defendants have sought protection from foreign lawyers, this precedent is Emiljano Shullazi, accused of extortion and a structured criminal group.

Over 100 court hearings were held for Shullazi, and several judges withdrew at the request of Shullazi's defense, claiming a conflict of interest.

Like Shullazi, Veliaj also got an "American lawyer", but the American lawyers, who the media paid by the incinerators called the people who defended Trump, declared that they were in the role of observers and were not even allowed as observers, since they did not meet the legal criteria, just like Shullazi's American lawyers.

On December 3, 2021, the Appeals Court of Kosovo (GJKKO) ruled in favor of Shullazi and his group. Shullazi will serve 14 years in prison, while Endrit Qyqja will serve 10 years in prison, Endrit Zela 10 years in prison, and Blerim Shullazi 9 years in prison.
