Dumani: The extension of the review of preliminary hearings brings problems with

The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, has reported on the work of the Special Prosecution Office for the year 2024.

Dumani stated that the extension of the review of preliminary hearings brings problems with detention deadlines.

According to the head of SPAK, the pre-trial judge must conclude with a decision, but practice has shown that trials in preliminary sessions last 6 to 12 months, whereas according to legal provisions they should be completed within one month.

"There is a large volume of work involved in representing cases in court sessions, and one of the reasons is the frequent postponement of sessions through no fault of the prosecutor.

One concern I want to raise is the review before the preliminary hearing judge, the prosecutor's review, from the institution's experience, takes a lot of work.

Before the preliminary hearing judge must conclude with a decision, but practice shows that trials in preliminary hearings last 6 to 12 months, where according to legal provisions they should be completed within one month. The extension of the hearing brings problems with the terms of detention.

The same situation with the summary judgment, its application takes time and I can say that it takes longer than it did in 2017.

"The pending cases make investigations take time and even drag on," said Dumani./ CNA
