'Buka' case/ Arben Ahmetaj goes on trial for abuse of office

Another decision was issued today against former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, one of the six defendants in the file known as "Buka", where he is accused of abuse of office.

The file will be reviewed on the merits by the trial panel, and as a result, Ahmetj will also face a trial on the merits.

The decision was made by preliminary judge Erjon Çela.

SPECIAL COURT OF FIRST INSTANCE FOR
CORRUPTION AND ORGANIZED CRIME

1. The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime on
21.12.2023 submitted to the Court the request with the subject: "Sending to trial
criminal case no. 154, year 2022, against the defendant Arben Ahmetaj, accused
of committing the criminal offense "Abuse of office" provided for by Article 248 of
the Criminal Code".

2. In the session of 25.07.2025 (preliminary session), the Special Court of First Instance
for Corruption and Organized Crime, with a panel composed of Judge
Erjon Çela, with decision no. 7/34/124, dated 25.07.2025, decided:

1. Acceptance of the request of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and
Organized Crime.

2. Referral for trial of criminal proceedings no. 154, of 2022, of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, against the defendant:
– Arben Ahmetaj, accused of committing the criminal offense of “Abuse of office”
provided for by Article 248 of the Criminal Code.

3. The formation of the trial file is ordered, including the acts of the
preliminary investigation and the acts of the preliminary session.

4. It is ordered that the court decision to send the case to court, together
with the trial file, be filed with the secretariat of the Special Court of
First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, as the court competent to
adjudicate the merits of the case, within ten days of its announcement.

5. There is no right of appeal against this decision. /CNA
