In his first interview, Archbishop Ioannis spoke about his acquaintance and relationship with His Beatitude Anastasios . He confessed that his first contact with Archbishop Anastasios was in 1992, when one of his professors, then Metropolitan and later Archbishop Dimitri, told him about the activity of His Beatitude Anastasios in Greece and as a missionary in Africa.

His Beatitude Joanni states that the example of the late Archbishop Anastasios has been important for all the clergy of the Orthodox Church, including himself. Archbishop Joanni states that during the period when he was studying, he contacted Archbishop Anastasios through Metropolitan Dhimitër and told him that after completing his studies he would return to Albania .

" My first contact with Archbishop Anastasios was in 1992. One of my professors, Metropolitan Dhimitër, later Archbishop Dhimitër, since he was a close friend of Archbishop Anastasios, since early youth, told me about his activity in Greece and as a missionary in Africa. Through him I got in touch with the Archbishop, to whom I told that when I finish my studies I will return to Albania. He was happy and congratulated me. At that time the situation in Albania was difficult, but I thought that in America a priest would be more or less the same, while in Albania there was a great need for clergy. Moreover, it was my country where I was born and raised and I felt an obligation. These were the reasons why I returned.

I think his example has been important for all the clergy of our church, including me. His love for the Church and for all people, his wisdom and care for the flock that God had entrusted to him, his patience and determination to achieve the objectives he had set for himself for the reconstruction of our church from the ruins, were always a living example, with a lot of power, to inspire others.
