Bregu: Aiming at digital transformation, we are working for the Europeanization

The sixth Western Balkans Digital Summit (SDBP), organized by Bosnia and Herzegovina and supported by the RCC, opened this morning in Sarajevo.

The participants of the Digital Summit appreciated the role of the RCC in reducing EU-Western Balkans roaming prices.

"The Digital Summit of the Western Balkans undoubtedly led a qualitative new phase in the regional cooperation for digitization. It embodies the principles of cooperation, inclusion, setting results between the governments of the 6 BP countries, regional and international partners - and is also based on strong input from industry. Four years ago at the second BP Digital Summit we started the process of reducing roaming charges between BP and EU-BP countries, with the signing of the Regional Roaming Agreement, which was a prerequisite for the one with the EU. As a result, two years later, in 2021, in our region roaming became free in all BP countries. And starting from this week, the reduction of data roaming charges between the EU and BP also came into effect.

Summit participants welcomed the reductions in EU-BP roaming charges and appreciated the role of the RCC in this process.

The summit was opened by Borjana Kristo, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to the General Secretary of the RCC, Edin Forto, Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Oliver Varhelyi, Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Roberto Viola, Director General of DG Connect, Stefan Schnorr, were also present at the opening ceremony. State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (Berlin), Steliana Nedera, UNDP Regional Office for Europe and CIS, Director of the Istanbul Regional Center and Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ).

It's a path to a more connected, accessible and affordable future for all that we at RCC are charting with tremendous dedication.
