Transparency Board enters into force/ Expected to meet to set fuel price

The Transparency Board has come into force, and is expected to hold its first meeting this week. At the meeting, the board is also expected to set ceiling prices for the sale of oil, gas and their by-products.

According to the decision in the official gazette, the prices, which are determined by the Board, are mandatory for all entities that trade oil and gas by-products in the country.

In a field survey conducted today by CNA, it was seen that fuel prices in our country have reached alarming figures for the pockets of citizens. More specifically, diesel prices at various points range from 211 to 214 lek per liter, while gasoline is traded near the level of 199 lek.

This price increase in the domestic market remains inexplicable, given that on international exchanges, oil has suffered a drastic drop of about 9% in just the last 24 hours, dropping to the level of $96 per barrel.

Meanwhile, in such conditions, Prime Minister Edi Rama declared on Sunday that the Transparency Board will be restored to control any possible abuse, although he claimed that so far no violations by traders have been observed. Rama promised a temporary intervention with a 20% excise tax reduction to ease the burden on vehicle users. Beyond these measures declared by the head of government, the figures on the fuel tables remain unchanged. /CNA
