The Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, visited the elderly who are in the hospital after a fire engulfed the home for the elderly in Fier.

He informed that there are 50 elderly people in the hospital, which is the total number of elderly people in this center.

In a statement to the media after visiting the elderly, Balla announced that their lives are out of danger and that they will stay in the hospital tonight.

"First of all, I want to thank the State Police forces, the Eagles department, the fire brigade. I also thank the employees of the nursing home in Fier who immediately removed the residents. Each of them is out of danger for life. The hospital has provided all the necessary care. It is about a fire that came from outside the building, but all investigations must be done to see who was the cause of the fire and to determine the causes of this fire. All residents were visited one by one. There are 50 residents that the municipality of Fier takes care of on an ongoing basis and they are all here," said Balla.

Will a new building be built?

"I would like us to do a new building, but these are our options at the moment. The building is not a depreciated building, it is a building in need of improvements. We will do everything so that the conditions in that house are not lacking," said Balla. / CNA
