Alban Skenderaj recounts the 20 difficult hours on the ship with 400 people: I
Alban Skenderaj

The well-known singer, Alban Skënderaj, in the "Flasim" Podcast with Prime Minister Edi Rama, told the difficult story of emigration to Italy.

It was March 1997, when the singer was only 15 years old and decided to travel to Italy.

"It was a ship that was full for 3 days. A friend of my brother told me come on. I told him I'm not coming without my friend. The ship had a capacity of 80 people and there were 400 people inside. The steering wheel broke. The whole voyage at sea has been a zigzag ship… to and fro. Where 1 could hardly fit in, we entered 3. I almost fell. I remember a guy grabbing me by my light denim sweatshirt. I slipped. It caught half of my body outside and half of my body inside. If I had fallen, no one would have seen me. Then the Guardia di Financa stopped with lights. There it was fatal. Because they stopped giving us food and everyone who was inside the ship got out and the ship was sinking. They put us on a warship where we traveled for another few hours. The trip took almost 20 hours. They took us to a camp where I have both tragic and comic memories. The first 2 weeks I had no contact with my family. Someone had said to him: How bad we saw Alban on the ship. After the Otranto ship sank the day after, we left the day before," said the singer./CNA
