SPAK intercepted 3335 mobile phones and SIM cards, including politicians and members of criminal groups.

This data was announced by SPAK in the report for 2023, where it is stated that the interception of telephone devices and SIM cards has marked a significant increase compared to 2022.

National Bureau of Investigation investigators say this method has been demonstrated to be effective in securing evidence against corrupt officials and members of criminal groups.

"During the year 2023, the Special Prosecutor's Office used the interception method for 186 criminal proceedings where 3335 end devices were intercepted (the device/phone number of the subject being intercepted), where there is an increase compared to 2022," says the report published by newsbomb .al.

The report raises the alarm of the involvement of politicians, high officials and state functionaries in acts of corruption.

According to SPAK, corruption cases dominate in criminal offenses, for which 109 procedures were registered and 1436 devices were intercepted in 2023. Meanwhile, in 2022 there were 69 criminal procedures and 1023 devices were intercepted for corruption cases.

The report also notes that organized criminal groups are increasingly involved in these crimes, with 77 criminal proceedings and 1,899 intercepted devices in 2023, compared to 53 criminal proceedings and 1,154 intercepted devices in 2022.

Also, the Special Prosecutor's Office underlines that "there has been an increase in the application of proactive investigation methods, in the case of wiretapping, but the application of special investigation methods such as: observations, controls, simulations, seizure of material evidence has also increased , letters, infiltrated agents etc".

This report was made public at a time when SPAK organized the mega-operation with 50 arrest warrants, which included the "heads" of criminal groups, but also politicians and police officials./ CNA
