On May 21, the National Employment Agency announced about 2,010 job vacancies across the country, but from data processing, according to educational level, only 7.6% of them required a bachelor's degree and less than 4% required studies at the level master.
The orientation of the economy from manufacturing to services has further reduced the demand for job skills. The biggest providers of jobs currently are bars, hotels and restaurants, which are mostly looking for simple labor, such as cleaners, waiters, kitchen workers, baristas and so on.
Out of 2010 vacancies announced, only 154 offers required bachelor's education and only 80 master's level.
The most offers are for "side workers" and mainly for employees without educational skills.
Recently, the government has committed to bring from the Philippines thousands of workers for the tourism sectors, as the local population, especially the young, educated are not being integrated into the labor market. Official data from INSTAT show that unemployment among young people has increased significantly in the last two years.

The official unemployment rate for young people aged 15-29 was 22.0% in the last quarter of 2023. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, this indicator increased by 0.6 percentage points. While for the 30-64 age group, the unemployment rate was 7.9% in the last quarter of 2023.
At the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, long-term unemployment among the 15-29 age group reached 14.3%, with an increase of 2 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023 (The long-term unemployment rate measures unemployment in relation to the duration of unemployment) .
Even in the third quarter of 2023, long-term unemployment among this age group was 15%, up from 11.9% in the third quarter of 2022. INSTAT data shows that long-term unemployment among young people aged 15-29 reached the highest level since the first quarter of 2017.
From 2019 to 2023, the number of young people aged 15-29 decreased by 94 thousand, or by 13.7%, but on the other hand, the number of young people looking for work has increased and the long-term unemployed have also increased.
Other surveys that have measured potential emigration have shown that the difficulties in employing young people are the main cause of their emigration.
The economic model that Albania offers does not require many skills and is always putting pressure on educated people to emigrate abroad./ Monitor.al
