44% of Albanians watched TV or online videos, the third lowest in Europe

While television remains one of the main means of informing the Albanian public, its transmission through the Internet and viewing of online videos remain the lowest in Europe.

Eurostat announced that in 2022 about 44% of individuals in Albania engaged in television broadcasting or online video, from 65% which is the average of the European Union.

This figure is the third lowest in Europe after Bulgaria (40%) and Romania (34%).

In the region, Montenegrins (71%) and Serbs (68%) are the most likely to watch TV and online videos. Data for Kosovo and North Macedonia are missing.

In 2022, 65% of individuals in the EU watched TV or video online.

In 24 of the 27 EU countries, more than half of individuals aged 16-74 used the internet to watch TV or stream video. Finland boasts the highest percentage at 93%, followed by the Netherlands (90%) and Denmark (89%).

On the other hand, 34% of individuals in Romania watched TV or video online, 40% in Bulgaria and almost 50% in Slovakia.

Broadcasting is most popular among young people

In 2022, streaming habits revealed a generational divide within the EU. Online streaming was particularly popular among young people, with 86% of individuals aged 16 to 24 and 81% of those aged 25 to 34 using the internet to watch TV or video.

Conversely, with increasing age, there was a decrease in the number of individuals engaged in online broadcasting. Among people aged 55 to 64, 52% used the Internet to watch TV or video, while only 33% of those aged 65 to 74 did the same./Monitor
