On February 27, Albania decided to stop the flights of Russian planes in its airspace. This was part of several sanctions that will remain in place until the war in Ukraine continues.

But these bans have not prevented Russian citizens from coming to Albania.

By the middle of August, more than 15 thousand Russian citizens have entered the country. A year ago they were 36 thousand. While in total, over 132 thousand are counted in the last 6 years.

Russians are part of the persons who can enter the Albanian territory without visas until September 31, 2022.

This is a practice followed by the government to waive multi-country visas during the summer season to attract as many tourists as possible.

The war has not stopped Ukrainians from visiting Albania either.

20 thousand of them have entered our country until mid-August. Meanwhile, in 2021 there were 110 thousand. The number of Ukrainians in the last 6 years has been 2 times that of Russians.

The arrival of Russian and Ukrainian tourists in Albania was mainly through charter flights that started in 2016. It was stopped in 2020 and in 2021 the flights were limited. Already with the war at the door, the paths they have found towards Albania have been different./euronews
