Xhaka to Chelsea? Sunderland makes decision

Chelsea have received a negative response from Sunderland to their first offer for Granit Xhaka.

The London club submitted an offer of around 9 million euros for the 33-year-old midfielder, at the request of new coach Xabi Alonso.

Sunderland immediately rejected the offer and made it clear that the player is not for sale. Xhaka joined the English club last summer from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to €20m including bonuses.

He was appointed captain and played a key role in the season in which Sunderland finished seventh in the Premier League, securing European competition for the first time in 53 years.

Xhaka has a contract until June 2028 and club leaders have stated that they will not consider other offers for his departure.
