It never happened! African national teams write history at the World Cup

The African continent has recorded a historic achievement in the group stage of the World Cup. For the first time in the history of this global competition, a full nine African teams have secured qualification for the first knockout round.

This expansion of African representation has also been facilitated by the implementation of the new tournament format with 48 participating teams.

With the increase in the number of teams, nine of the 32 places available in the first knockout stage belong to the Confederation of African Football.

In statistical terms, this figure corresponds to 28% of the total number of teams qualified for this stage, setting the highest percentage ever recorded for this continent on the international stage.

According to the official group rankings, the African teams that have secured their place in the tournament are: Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Senegal, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Algeria. This group of teams includes both teams with long experience on the international stage, as well as representatives who are considered surprises of this edition, as is the case with Cape Verde.

This performance is considered an indicator of the increasing competitive level of African teams compared to traditional European and South American football schools.

The presence of nine teams mathematically increases the chances that the African continent will have a broad representation in the next round of 1/8 finals.
