World Cup ball controversy, strange goals conceded

Goalkeepers have been among the most prominent figures of the 2026 World Cup, with several important performances in the group stage.

Cape Verde captain Vozinha was outstanding against Spain, while Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room made 15 saves, equaling a World Cup record. Iran's Alireza Beiranvand also played a crucial role in the 0-0 draw against Belgium.

However, the tournament has also seen some unusual mistakes from goalkeepers such as Jordan Pickford, Edouard Mendy, Luka Zidane and Ahmed Basil. Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart has raised doubts about the official "Trionda" ball, suggesting it may behave differently in flight.

Kasper Schmeichel shares the same opinion, noting that the four-panel construction and lack of traditional seams affect the trajectory of the ball. Statistics show that so far 20 goals have been scored from outside the area and 11 errors have been recorded that have led directly to goals.

Meanwhile, Adidas insists that the "Trionda" has been extensively tested and designed to guarantee maximum stability during play.
