Uruguay avoids defeat, Saudi Arabia close to triumph

The World Cup Group H match between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay produced no winner, ending in a 1-1 draw. The match started with chances for the Uruguayans, with the Saudi goalkeeper saving Araujo's shot in the opening minutes.

Uruguay continued to threaten through a header from Federico Viñas, but it was Saudi Arabia who broke the deadlock in the 41st minute.

After a corner kick, Mohamed Kano's first-time header was stopped by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, but defender Abdulelah Al-Amri took advantage of the rebound to score.

The goal marked a significant statistical milestone for Saudi Arabia, ending a run of 16 consecutive World Cup matches without scoring the first goal of the match, dating back to 1994.

At half-time, Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa made two substitutions, increasing his team's attacking volume. Vinas again had a header, while midfielder Manuel Ugarte hit the post with a long-range shot.

With the change in tactical scheme, Federico Valverde gained more space in midfield, testing goalkeeper Al-Ouais with a free kick. The South Americans' constant pressure was realized ten minutes before the end of normal time.

In the 80th minute, after another Al-Ouais save on Vinja's shot, Araujo reacted faster than the Saudi defense, tying the score at 1-1.

In extra time, the Saudi goalkeeper made another decisive save on a powerful shot by Valverde, securing the point for the team led by Donis.

After the first round, all four teams in Group H are on one point. The next matches will take place on Sunday, when Uruguay will play Cape Verde, while Saudi Arabia will face Spain in Atlanta.
