Rocchi makes drastic decision, file reopened

Gianluca Rocchi has self-suspended himself from his position as head of refereeing in Serie A and B, following an investigation into sports fraud.

The decision was taken with immediate effect and in agreement with the Association of Arbitrators. Rocchi, 52, leaves a few months before the end of his mandate, which was due to expire on June 30. He will be questioned on April 30 by authorities in Milan.

The case began with a complaint filed by Domenico Rocca in May 2025. The FIGC prosecutor's office, headed by Giuseppe Chine, had initially closed the case, but it has now been reopened. Andrea Gervasoni, who has also suspended himself, is also under investigation.

The situation comes at a sensitive moment for Italian football, ahead of the June 22 elections for the head of the federation.
