Scandal in Italy, Rocchi leaves. Matches under investigation revealed, punishment at risk

Gianluca Rocchi, the referee selector in Serie A and B, is under investigation in Milan for participating in sports fraud and has self-suspended himself from duty.

VAR supervisor Andrea Gervasoni is also under investigation. The investigation relates to several matches from last season, including Udinese-Parma, Bologna-Inter, Inter-Milan in the Coppa Italia and Salernitana-Modena.

It all started with a complaint filed by Domenico Rocca last spring, which was initially filed by the sports justice. The charge is related to exerting pressure on referees and influencing decision-making. The law provides for sentences of 2 to 6 years in prison and a fine of 1,000 to 4,000 euros for sports fraud.

The Milan prosecutor's office has reopened the investigation and is expected to question Rocchi and Gervasoni. The investigation remains ongoing and the involvement of other people is not ruled out.
