Real Madrid signs defender, 1 billion euro clause

Real Madrid have extended the contract of young defender Raul Asencio until 2031. According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal includes a release clause of 1 billion euros, the same as that of Mbappé and Vinicius.

The 22-year-old took advantage of Militao's absence through injury to earn a starting spot from November last year. He was one of the bright spots of last season for Real, who failed to win La Liga or the Copa del Rey and were eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League.

The club had been planning a renewal since March and have now finalised the deal. Expectations are high for his future role, with Xabi Alonso seeing him as a pillar of the defence.

The renewal comes just days before the Club World Cup, with Real Madrid continuing to build the squad for the future with promising elements.
