The former coach of the Albanian national team, Christian Panucci, has taken credit for bringing defender Ardian Ismajli to the "reds".

Panucci said in a recent statement to the Italian media that he convinced the defender to leave the Kosovo team, where he was the captain of the U-21 team.

"This is the first time I talk about it and it makes me happy. As coach of Albania, I traveled around Europe in 2018 looking for new players to call up. I personally saw Ismajli in Croatia, where Ardiani played for Hajduk Split. He won me over immediately. I got into the action and started talking to him to convince him to choose Albania, since he was already in the Kosovo team. He accepted Albania because of me and because of the fact that I tried to convince him. He was a man of his word.
