"I can't stand arrogance", Martinez: My gesture? I had it with the French fans

Emiliano Martinez has become a hero in Argentina. The 30-year-old confirmed his skills as a penalty taker and with his punch against Kinglsey Coman he became the third goalkeeper to save a penalty in a World Cup final decided from the penalty spot, after Claudio Taffarel and Gianluca Pagliuca (1994).

Martinez was named the best goalkeeper of the Qatar 2022 World Cup while opting for a much-controversial celebration after the dramatic victory over France and winning the award.

" My gesture was a reaction to the French fans, they booed me throughout the final. Arrogance doesn't work against me ", said the "guardian" regarding an action he could have avoided.

" They tied the game with two foul shots. We were destined to suffer, but we couldn't dream of a more beautiful World Cup ," declared Aston Villa's goalkeeper in the Premier League.
