Mourinho risks severe punishment

The fiery Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce did not produce a winner, ending in a draw. However, as often happens in confrontations between these two teams, this time too there was no shortage of controversy.

At the center of the debate is Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho, whose comments after the match have irritated Galatasaray.

During the post-match press conference, Mourinho used the phrase "jumping like monkeys" to describe the opposition bench's protests in the opening minutes of the match. These words were immediately branded as racist by the rival club, who announced they would complain about the Portuguese coach to UEFA and FIFA.

If UEFA and FIFA decide to pursue the matter, the “Special One” could face a lengthy ban from football. According to Article 14 of UEFA’s Disciplinary Regulations, using the word “monkey” in the context of a sporting competition is considered a racist act, for which the minimum penalty is a 10-match suspension.
