The blue card enters football, here is the FIFA revolution

The blue card is about to be implemented in football today by FIFA. This revolutionary move will be formalized as part of the protocol of referees who will have the option to send players off the field of play for 10 minutes if they commit a cynical foul or vehemently protest against the match officials.

The new protocol will limit the blue card to wrong tackles that avoid a promising action. So, if a player fouls the last player, he gets a blue card and a 10 minute ban rather than the usual red card. Two blue cards or a combination of blue-yellow cards will bring the red card.

The elite leagues will be excluded from the first tests in professional matches in case the protocol still needs revisions, as FIFA itself states. Their implementation in the major championships is expected to start in the summer depending on the results.
