The Champions League is changing, this is how the new format will be

After 2024, all three European Club Cup events will change format.

36 teams, with a single ranking, as if it were a mega-championship. This is the philosophy of the new Champions. A tournament in which the situation can be in the balance until the last day, avoiding the loss of interest of the last rounds. And with the direct elimination will come the most beautiful part. So 36 teams, divided into 4 groups of 9 teams, based on the UEFA club rankings, will play 8 matches in each group.

There is no second leg, but 8 direct opponents decided by the draw made in August in Monte Carlo. After the group matches, the top 8 in the rankings go directly to the round of 16. Teams from 9th to 16th place face off in the "play off" with those from 17th to 24th place. The 8 play off winners reach the top 8 of the groups. The 8 losers from these matches are eliminated in the same way as those from the 25th-36th place.

A new feature will be that whoever is eliminated does not advance to other Cups. Until the single final, it will be played with a round-trip system and there will be no other draw except the one made in August. Minimum 15 games to win the Champions League, 17 for those who go through the "play off". The system also revolutionizes the Europa League and the Conference League.
