Robertson elbowed, FA takes decision on side referee

Constantine Hatzidakis, the linesman, caused a stir on social media for his action on Liverpool's Robertson in the game against Arsenal.

Robertson was left unnerved by the incident at the end of the first half last weekend. Television footage appeared to show the referee punching the full-back. Referee Paul Tierney then showed the Scot a yellow card for his protests. The challenge officials were then surrounded by Liverpool players, including a furious Robertson.

This situation went all the way to the FA, who confirmed that after an investigation, no further action would be taken.

"We have thoroughly reviewed all the evidence in relation to the recent incident at Anfield involving Liverpool defender Robertson and match official Constantine Hatzidakis and will take no further action. "Our comprehensive process includes reviewing detailed statements from Liverpool and PGBMOL, as well as multiple angles of footage, regarding the incident and its circumstances," the FA said.

Also, the referee in question said after the match that he had apologized to the Scottish defender and that the hit was not intentional.
