The number of vehicles circulating in the country has increased significantly over the last year.

INSTAT data revealed that at the end of the first quarter of 2024, a total of 887,000 vehicles were circulating in the country. Compared to the same period a year ago, 78,000 cars were added to Albania's roads, with an increase of almost 10%.

The brand "Mercedez Benz" is the brand with the highest circulation in the country in the category of road vehicles with 18.0%, followed by the brand "Volkswagen" with 16.0% and "Daimler Chrysler" with 8.6%.

However, it seems that the reign of "Mercedez Benz" is gradually coming to an end, as "Volkswagen" is growing faster.

The difference between them in relation to the total funds narrowed by almost 1 percentage point in one year. Of the 78,000 vehicles that were added in one year, 17,000 were of the "Volkswagen" brand, 13,000 were "Mercedez Benz", almost 9,000 Audi, 4,700 Toyota, 3,400 Ford.

According to INSTAT, during the first quarter of 2024, 21,265 road vehicles were registered for the first time. In the category of road vehicles according to the type registered for the first time, the largest percentage of the total number of road vehicles is occupied by "Cars" (84.4%) and "Motorcycles" (6.4%).

In the first quarter, the "Volkswagen" brand is the brand with the highest turnover in the country in the category of road vehicles registered for the first time with 21.2%, followed by the "Mercedez Benz" brand with 16.8%.

The highest number of road vehicles registered for the first time is in the district of Tirana, accounting for 42.0% of the total road vehicles registered in the country in the first quarter of 2024.

The districts with the smallest number of road vehicles registered for the first time are Gjirokastër district with 1.3% and Dibër district with 1.8% of the total road vehicles.

The length of the road network in use is 3,606* km, classified by categories, such as highway, main interurban road, secondary interurban road, urban road and local road. Secondary interurban roads occupy about 74.2% of the length of the road network.

According to INSTAT, in the first quarter of 2024, the total number of road vehicles with "active" and "temporarily deregistered" status circulating in the territory of the Republic of Albania until March 2024 is 887,321 vehicles.

In the category of road vehicles by type, the largest percentage of the total number of road vehicles is occupied by "Cars" (80.7%), "Vehicles for mixed transport" (6.2%) and "Motor" (5, 6 %).

In the first quarter of 2024, the highest number of road vehicles in total was registered in the Tirana region, accounting for 34.7% of the total road vehicles registered in the country, followed by the Durrës region with 13.5% of the total road vehicles .
